The Elsie Burke Service Award, established in 1983, recognizes outstanding loyalty and service to Mansfield University. Carl Ruck has been an active advocate and liaison for the university for many years. He was a member of the Alumni Board from 1988 to 1998, serving as president in 1994-95 and vice-president in 1993-94.
He has assisted with many Alumni Weekends and hosted alumni receptions in his home state of Virginia. In 1998, Ruck was named to the Mansfield University Foundation Board, a position he continues to hold.
After earning his B.S. in Music Education in 1980, Ruck completed his Master of Music in keyboard performance at Ithaca College. While working as an education specialist for the U.S.Department of Defense Domestic Dependents Schools in Quantico, VA, Ruck has continued to be active in performing, highlighted by concerts at the White House on three different occasions.
Ruck was featured as a MU commencement speaker in 1997 and is now in the process of establishing a permanently endowed scholarship for MU music majors.
