The Elsie Burk Service Award, established in 1983, recognizes outstanding loyalty and service to Mansfield University. Bob Shorb has been an active advocate and liaison for the university for many years. He was a class agent for the Annual Fund campaigns from 1991-95. Shorb was a member of the Alumni Board from 1997-2003, serving as president in 1998-2000, and as the Alumni Board representative to the University Foundation Board.
From 2000 to 2001, he served as the non-voting alumni representative to the Council of Trustees. During his board tenure he was instrumental in getting alumni more involved in the admissions process, representing alumni during the initial discussion of Mansfield's first comprehensive Capital Campaign planning session and shaping alumni commentary in the strategic goals of The Mansfield Plan.
Shorb was featured as the MU Senior Brunch speaker in 1990. He received the MU Young Alumni Award in 1992 and was the Commencement speaker in 1993. After earning his B.S. in Secondary Education-Social Studies in 1976, Shorb completed his M.S. in Education in College Student Development Services at Alfred University.
He is the director of student aid and family finance at Skidmore College and is an active volunteer serving on numerous national, regional and local association boards. Shorb and his wife Janice live in Gansevoort, NY and are the parents of three children: Meredith,a sophomore at Vassar College, Kimberly and Stephanie.
