The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is given for outstanding professional performance and achievements to those who have graduated in the last 20 years. Douglas Orzolek is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and the Associate Director of Bands at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has previously taught music in the Bloomington, MN and Vestal, NY school districts.
In Minnesota, Douglas serves as the Advocacy Chair on the Board of the Minnesota Music Educators Association and has served on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Band Directors Association. He is a member of the Minnesota Arts Best Practice Network and has served on several state committees for implementation of the Minnesota Profile of Learning. Douglas has been named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers on four separate occasions and received the Minnesota ASBDA Distinguished Band Directors Award for 1999-2000.
Douglas, his wife Amy, and their children, Megan, 2, and Ben, 4 months, reside in Bloomington, MN.
