Symphonic Band Rehearsals in November/December
Posted by Nathan Rinnert for November 7, 2009
The MU Symphonic Band MEN 3332) is a non-audition 75-piece ensemble that meets MWF, 3:30-4:20, during the Spring semester and performs two concerts. This ensemble performs a wide variety of concert band repertoire including traditional overtures and marches, transcriptions, and newer, progressive compositions.
The Symphonic Band is starting rehearsals a bit earlier this year. We will be rehearsing on the following Mondays in Butler 136 - 11/9, 11/16, 11/23, and 11/30. On Monday, 11/30 (and possibly Monday, 12/7)we will be auditioning student conductors with this ensemble for the annual student conducting competition. 6-7 successful student conducting candidates (primarily students in the Music Education program) will be conducting the band, Symphony Orchestra, and Concert Wind Ensemble in concert at the MU Conducting Symposium in mid-February.
Students interested in playing in the Symphonic Band during the Spring semester should try to come to the November/December rehearsals, although it is not required for Spring participation. A limited number of school-owned intruments are availble for students to use.
