4. Greek System Community Service & Involvement

A. Late-Night Alternative Programming:

Each organization will be responsible for facilitating at least one Late-Night Event per semester. Groups may
pair up to fulfill this requirement with prior approval from the Greek Affairs Office.

The events will begin by 10pm and run until at least 1am, plus set-up and tear-down time. Any exceptions will
be announced in advance.

B. Specific Projects:

These include: Mountie Movers, Red Cross Blood Drives, Halloween Cross Walk, Make-a-Difference Day, and others that are done as a collective “Greek System”, and that are scheduled on the calendar in advance.

Points for these activities are based on the % of membership attendance as indicated under Events/Programs, unless a specific number is previously determined.

C. Outside Organizations:

DEFINITION: Any University-recognized organization other than those associated with the Office of Greek Affairs.

  • For qualification, Greeks must be an ACTIVE member of the outside organization
  • Points are awarded at the end of the semester upon confirmation of involvement
  • Organizations are awarded a maximum of 25 points based on percentage of membership involved in outside organizations.

5. Rush, Recruitment and Initiation

A. Visitation Days:

Organizations will earn 5 points per visitation day attended.

B. Recruitment Week Events:

Organizations will earn 50 points for full representation (including prep work) at our Recruitment Week Opening Event (a.k.a. "Open House", "Meet the Greeks", etc.)

C. Recruits:

A “new member” that accepts a bid by signing a bid acceptance card. (For “possible point” purposes, we use 5 as our target number!)

  • 5 pts for each bid card (25 points averaged in for the “possible” total)

D. New Member Activities Cease:

Organizations receive 25 points for ending New Member Program by designated date.

E. Fully Initiated Members:

A recruit/new member that completes all the steps of the New Member process: eligibility, signed bid card/grade-release, all new member programs, signed initiation practices policy, and is initiated into the chapter!

  • 10 pts = 100% of recruits initiated
  • 7.5 pts = 75% - 99% of recruits initiated
  • 5 pts = 50% - 74% of recruits initiated
  • 0 pts = Less than 50% initiated

6. Academics:

A. Overall Organization Term Averages:

  • 100 pts if @ or above all-women’s/men’s average
  • 50 pts if within .10 below all-women’s/men’s average
  • 25 pts if within .20 below all-women’s/men’s average
  • 0 pts if more than .20 below all-women’s/men’s average

B. Greek Scholar Awards: (In case of a tie, both chapters receive full pts)

  • 5 pts = chapter with the Highest Semester Average for Actives
  • 10 pts = chapter with the Highest Semester Average for Associates
  • 15 pts = chapter with the Highest Semester Average Combined

C. New Member Study Hours:

  • 10 pts per week earned if all New Members complete the minimum 6 hours
  • Bonus "A" Assignments: 2pts extra per "A" assignment presented and approved after being signed by the class professor

7. Extra Credit:

A. Individual Community Service Projects:

DEFINITION: Time and effort donated to a cause for which the organization receives no monetary compensation in return.

These are projects in addition to the Greek System Community Service & Involvement, such as: Mountie Movers, Blood Drive, Halloween Cross Walk, Make-a-Difference Day, etc.

A COMMUNITY SERVICE SHEET MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR CREDIT! These forms are available on this site and must be submitted by the last Order of Omega meeting of the semester.

  • 3 pts will be awarded for every 5 "man-hours" of service (this means individual hours!)
    • Ex: If 5 members clean a highway for 3 hours, they will accumulate a total of 15 “man-hours”, and will receive 9 points!

Collaborative Efforts:

You can earn even more points while building Greek relations! If two organizations collaborate for a service project, each organization will earn points for the collective amount of man-hours. (This must be indicated on the Community Service Sheet, and a form must be submitted by each organization involved before credit is awarded.)

  • Ex: If ABC (15 members) and XYZ (15 members) do separate projects for 2 hours, they would each earn 6 points (15 mem x 2 hrs=30 man hrs/5 = 6 pts).
  • However, as a collaborative effort, they would each earn 12 points! (30 involved x 2 hours=60 man hours/5 = 12 points)

B. Charitable Donations:

DEFINITION: Monetary funds raised for, and donated to, a specific charity.

These are fundraisers in addition to any listed under the Greek System Community Service & Involvement category, and DO NOT include events such as the Children’s Miracle Network Fundraiser, Car Bash for Food Pantry, etc.

A CHARITABLE DONATION SHEET, WITH PROOF OF DONATION (cancelled check, receipt, etc.), MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR CREDIT! These forms are available on this site and must be submitted by the last Order of Omega meeting of the semester.

  • Points awarded = 10% of the total funds donated.
    • Ex: If an organization raises and donates $100 to the American Cancer Society, they will receive 10 points!

C. Additional, Special Opportunities:

Keep your eyes and ears open for special opportunities as advertised via Order of Omega, Panhellenic, IFC and e-mail.

Many of these opportunities will be events/functions on-campus that are not necessarily Greek-related, but at which the "Greek presence" would have a positive impact. (This includes: non-Greek guest speakers, special athletic events, films, plays, etc.)
