Developing Tomorrow's Leaders
2012 Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Meeting of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
This year's annual meeting was hosted by Kutztown University. Two Mansfield University history majors, Amanda Ward and Robert Nichols, attended the conference along with Dr. Karen Guenther and Dr. Andrew Gaskievicz. Amanda Ward presented her paper entitled "The Kodynka Coronation Catastrophe of 1896: Doomed from the Beginning?"
(2011) Jaymes Crain interned at the Mansfield University Archives. He was involved in the preparation of Finding Aids for several collections, preservation of manuscripts and papers in several collections, and assembling displays (one on the renovation of North Hall, one of Mansfield University past and present). Among the collections Jaymes worked with were the Mansfield Nursing Exchange Program, Mansfield Student Army Training Corps, R.O.T.C., the history of Mansfield's theater program, and the renovation of North Hall.
(2011) Shannon Romatowski also interned at the Mansfield University Archives. Shannon was involved in preparing Finding Aids for several collections, preserving manuscripts and papers, and assembling a display using materials from one of the collections. Among the collections Shannon worked with were the George W. Maxey Collection, Will George Butler Love Letters Collection, and the Collection of Mansfield Borough pictures. Shannon also interned at the Tioga County Historical Society, where she helped with the inventory and compiled an index to a lodge book.
(2010) Marlie Manning interned at the Drake Well Museum near Titusville, PA. The Museum focuses on the oil industry. It is the site of the first commercial oil well in Pennsylvania. Marlie is holding a fishing tool, one of the artifacts in the museum's collection. While at the Drake Well Museum, she helped catalog artifacts, worked in the Visitor's Center, and presented public programs. In the summer of 2011, Marlie worked for MEET-U, a traveling environmental educational exhibit, which is based at Drake Well.
(2010) Anya Rhode interned at French Azilum, along the Susquehanna River near Towanda, PA. French Azilum was established as a new home for Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution. French Azilum includes Wells Cabin, an archaeological excavation site, and the LaPorte House which is the main site. Anya is holding an ophthalmoscope, one of the artifacts from their collection. Anya was involved with cataloging artifacts, conducting guided tours of the buildings on the property, and presenting public programs.
