Criminal Justice Administration - Regular, Part-time (F16-PT-2009)

Regular, part-time, non-tenure track position beginning Spring 2010. The Criminal Justice Administration Department offers Bachelor and Associate Degrees in Criminal Justice Administration. It is one of the original CJA programs established in Pennsylvania and currently has approximately 280 majors.

Responsibilities

Teach Juvenile Justice and Selected Topics in Probation and Parole (both fall and spring semesters). The successful applicant is expected to effectively teach and advise a diverse student population; make professional and university service contributions; and advance Criminal Justice Administration at Mansfield University. Demonstrate excellence in teaching, continuing scholarly growth and service to the university.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: a completed graduate degree in criminal justice and completion of a successful campus interview (which requires a teaching demonstration).

Additional requirements: five years of full-time experience as an adult or juvenile probation and/or parole officer at the county or state level; prior teaching experience at the university level; excellent communication skills (verbal and written); the ability to teach, evaluate and advise students; and completion of a successful interview which may include a teaching demonstration on a probation or parole topic. Demonstrate the elements of the Mansfield Creed (Character, Scholarship, Culture, Service) and be effective in supporting the university’s vision and mission.

Preferred: Professional experience as both a juvenile and adult probation and parole officer; professional experience as an administrator and/or supervisor in juvenile and adult probation or parole officer at the county or state level; prior university teaching experience teaching juvenile justice and special topics in probation and parole; professional memberships in national and state probation and/or parole associations; and a prior academic or professional publishing record or professional presentations addressing probation and/or parole topics. A condition of employment is an official transcript for all earned degrees and an acceptable background check report.

Essential Functions

Effective teaching and advising. Also requires scholarly growth, and service to the department, university, and community. Communicate and write effectively. Effective use of computer technology. Work cooperatively with staff, faculty and administration. Travel is required.
