Our Vision-Pennsylvania’s children will have quality, integrated school health services that improve health status, optimize academic achievement, and enhance well-being.
The mission of the PA Coalition for SBHC is to promote the health and academic success of children and youth by increasing access to high quality health care and support services provided through school-based care, including school-based and school-linked health centers. We pursue this mission by advocating for public policies that promote school-based health care; building support among policymakers, providers, school nurses, community leaders, parents and students; and providing technical support and networking opportunities for individuals working for school-based health care.
School-based health care and school-based health centers are the premier care models for children in schools. School nurses, school nurse practitioners, physicians, dentists, social workers, and psychologists are all involved in the comprehensive services offered to children through schools throughout the country. In Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Coalition for School Based Health Care, headed by Dr. Denise Seigart at Mansfield University, promotes the establishment and expansion of school-based health care services for children. Dr. Seigart has completed extensive research on various models for school-based health care, including on an international level. Individuals interested in learning more about school-based health care can contact her @ dseigart@mansfield.edu or visit the web site for the National Assembly on School-Based Health Care
