Vehicle Safety

Crime can take place in isolated parking lots. These tips can keep you out of harm's way.

Mansfield University of PennsylvaniaHave your car key in hand, ready to put in the lock, as you're walking toward your car.

Check underneath your car before getting too close. Someone underneath could grab you by the ankles if you're standing close by.

Look in the backseat before entering the car to make sure no one is hiding back there.

Always park in well lighted areas.

Remember to check your tires for proper inflation and keep your gas tank full.

Always keep your car locked, whether you're in it or not.

When driving, always drive with your doors locked and your windows partially up. You don't want any uninvited passengers.

Walk  to your car with someone you know and trust, especially when it's dark.

Always have a safety kit handy. It should at least include the following items

  1. Flashlight
  2. Flares
  3. Blanket
  4. Gallon of water
  5. Spare change
