Personal Statement
- A native of Toronto, Canada, I began my university career at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1969—where I was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to play hockey for the OU Bobcats. We didn’t have a Spring semester during my freshman year, since the University suspended classes after four students were shot dead at Kent State University. I sort of lost interest in hockey. I transferred home to the University of Toronto where I studied phenomenology and graduated with a BA in philosophy from St. Michael’s College. While in Teachers’ College at the University of Toronto I worked as an Athletics Coach and was assistant to Canadian Olympic Decathlon Coach, Andy Higgins, in preparation for the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
- I attended graduate school at the University of California at Santa Barbara, where I earned my MA in Gestalt Psychology and my PhD in Institutional Leadership and Communications. While at UCSB I also taught and studied at the world famous Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Since the 1980s I have taught at universities in California, British Columbia, Alberta, Western Ontario, Toronto, Nova Scotia, North Carolina, the state of Georgia, the republic of Georgia, Germany, France, Switzerland, and Bangkok, Thailand.
- Here at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania I am an associate professor of psychology and director of the Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership.
