Psi Chi Introduction Dinner 4-24-08 Psi Chi Sp 2010 a Advisor Brown with Psi Chi officers

Personal Statement:

  • My training and experiences encourage me to bring an inter-disciplinary approach to the field. I believe this background provides my students a broad-based orientation for understanding various aspects of individual and family behavior. I regularly teach courses in life span development, child and adolescent development, and gerontology. I also have taught a variety of family studies classes and M.U.’s introductory psychology and first year psychology seminar courses.
  • On campus, I advise psychology majors, minors in human development and psychology, and undeclared students.  I find these roles rewarding as I get to know my students in a more personal way. I also represent the Psychology Department on University Senate and have served as advisor to both the campus Psi Chi honor society and Psychology Club.
  • I have advised and held offices in several state and local professional organizations and campus committees, have organized several regional and state conferences, and have served on human service agency advisory boards in the community - experiences that have added to my ability to help students "see beyond the textbook."
  • My main extracurricular interest is music – mostly as a consumer and avid collector of recordings but also as an occasional performer.
