We have, in the Psychology Department, made a strong commitment to using assessment strategies to help our majors learn more effectively, including use of student portfolios, campus presentations, and other outcome measures. We have defined general outcomes consistent with the expectations of the American Psychological Association, and you can expect that each course will address specific outcomes that the professor defines for you at the start of the course in conjunction with the syllabus. In most instances there will be specific projects or assignments designed to demonstrate what you have learned as well as your skills in applying your new knowledge. The Department Handbook has descriptions of the portfolio, learning outcomes, and methods of demonstration.
