The SSS program is one of three TRIO programs originally funded under the Higher Education Act of 1965 whose objective is to help students overcome class, social and cultural barriers to complete their college education. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Student Support Services is committed to helping low-income, first-generation college students and students with disabilities achieve a bachelor's degree. Since its inception, the TRiO program has grown and there are currently eight programs funded by the Federal TRiO grant.
The program's mission is to increase persistence and graduation rates by offering academic and personal support.

Mansfield welcomed its first student in 1857 – and to this day, the University continues to seek and serve students with big dreams for their futures.
